March 13th 2003 Hi Folks! HOW DO I START MY ONLINE BUSINESS FOR NOTHING? One of the things that I get asked all the time is: 'How can I start an online business if I don't have any money to set things up?' As I have said many times before, it is perfectly possible to start earning online with little or no investment whatsoever. I started working online using the biggest online auction in the world - eBay.com and like many people, I began by selling things from around my own home. Over the years we all accumulate all sorts of bits and pieces - for me it was books and I successfully sold many of my old books on eBay. That led me to try selling other things and I quickly found that you really can sell just about anything on eBay! A few years ago, I had a very successful 'run' selling 'vintage' Sinclair computers - these were really the first affordable computers for the home. (They were big business in the early eighties despite the fact that they only had a memory of between 1k and 128k) For a time, it was possible to buy these computers at second-hand sales and from classified ads for a few pounds each, but collectors on eBay would pay up to $200 for some models and even the less desirable models were selling for $50+. So if you want to work online, but don't have any money to invest, don't worry, just take a look around your house and see what you have that you could sell. You may think it is junk, but to someone, somewhere, it could be very valuable. I came across an original eBook this week - now that's a novelty to start with :-) The eBook is called 'Yahoo Store Profits' and as the name suggests it is about Yahoo Stores. Yahoo have an online shopping mall and anyone can open a store there using Yahoo's built-in store generator software. You can sell just about anything and setting up a store is easy. The Yahoo shopping network gets around 13,000 000 visitors a day (yup, that is 13 million and I did say per DAY!). Clearly with that level of traffic there is some money to be made using Yahoo Stores, however as you would expect, there is a fair bit of competition. 'Yahoo Store Profits' has been written by a couple that already run a very successful Yahoo Store and aims to guide the newbie through the process of opening a store from scratch to making it profitable. The eBook is over 300 pages long (and when you consider that many eBooks only run to 20 or 30 pages, thats a big eBook) and is packed full of screen shots and illustrations to make everything crystal clear. I believe that Yahoo Stores are only available on Yahoo.com (ie. in the US), but in theory if you utilise drop-shippers (as the authors of the eBook do), then I don't see any reason why you couldn't operate a Yahoo Store from anywhere in the World (I haven't checked the Yahoo terms & conditions, so if you are not in the US, I suggest a quick glance would be a good idea). Another great way to set up online for minimal cost and no outlay on stock. This eBook comes with my recommendation - it's a great read, it is packed with information and it will prove to be a great help to anyone interested in going down the Yahoo Stores route.
